Causes and Effects of Poor Drainage Systems
Introduction
This research proposal discusses the need of Bukasa-Namuwongo,
Makindye division at Uganda
to re-establish its drainage system. Specifically, the proposal aims to
evaluate causes and effects of poor drainage systems in the division and the
development of a better drainage systems. In this research proposal, the
background, context and theme of the study are presented; the objectives of the
study and the research statements are formulated. Here, vital concepts,
questions and assumptions are stated. Finally, the scope and limitation of the
study, methodology to be used and the significance of the research are
discussed.
Purpose of the Study
In general, the purpose of the research is to
discuss the possibility of reestablishing drainage systems in Uganda, with a
focus on the development of a better drainage system. The research will
specifically find out the benefits of this drainage system on developers,
builders, renters, homeowners, etc. This proposed study will detail the current
theories and practices in drainage systems development and the challenges and
opportunities it poses to the said division in Uganda. The analysis will be
framed within a business setting.
Significance of the Study
This work will be a
significant endeavor in lobbying among authorities, the urgent need to assess
the current drainage
systems. The author believes that the reestablishment of the present
drainage systems
Bukasa-Namuwongo, Makindye division at Uganda and the development
of a drainage systems will curb
national flooding problems and will benefit the housing industry and household as
well.
Scope of the Study
This research will only discuss issues
involving drainage systems in Bukasa-Namuwongo, Makindye division in Uganda.
Other division in Uganda with similar experience will be discussed briefly. The
outcome of this study will be limited only to the data gathered from books and
journals. As this study is specific to Uganda, a similar study on other
underdeveloped countries is further suggested.
Methodology
This study will employ the descriptive research method
using observation. In this method, it is possible that the study would be cheap
and quick. Nonetheless, it would be very hard to rule out alternative explanations
and especially infer causations. Descriptive research is a type of research
that is primarily concerned with describing the nature or conditions and degree
in detail of the present situation (Creswell, 1994). The emphasis in this type
of research is to describe rather than to judge or to interpret.
The data will come from published articles from
journals, books and studies on Uganda’s drainage system, its current situation,
and the importance of better drainage system. For this research design, the author
will gather data, collate published studies and make a content analysis of the
collected documentary and verbal material. Afterwards, the author will
summarize all the information, make a conclusion provide insightful
recommendations on the dealing with Uganda’s drainage system.
This study will employ qualitative research to analyse
qualitative elements that do not have standard measures such as behavior,
attitudes, opinions, and beliefs.
Furthermore qualitative research is multimethod in focus, involving an
interpretative, naturalistic approach to its subject matter.
Overview
of the Study
This research will use the descriptive approach. It
will be divided in five chapters. The first chapter discusses the background of
the study and the nature of the problem. The second chapter provides a review
of related literature, followed by a chapter that discusses the methodology
that will be used. The fourth chapter presents the findings based on the
collated materials. The last chapter concludes the study by summarizing
findings and providing recommendations.
